A great deal is happening in the field of Christian Muslim relations, not least through the Christian Muslim Forum, see Inter Faith Organisations.  This page will highlight new items or key resources and events in Christian Muslim dialogue.

In support of Christian Muslim Encounter

In July 2010 the Archbishop of Canterbury hosted a Christian Muslim Forum conference at Lambeth Palace, drawing together people who had experience of their residential encounter events around the country. At the conclusion a letter of encouragement to others was published.

Christian Muslim Forum Ethical Guidelines for Witness

This remarkable document was prepared by the Christian Muslim Forum, www.christianmuslimforum.org

Comment on the official launch of the text:
Anglican, Catholic and Orthodox Bishops, Imams, clergy and scholars from various Muslim and Christian traditions, interfaith practitioners, evangelists and protagonists of Muslim da’wah (mission) gathered within the hospitality of Islamic Relief (just down the road from Christian Aid) to discuss and to launch this text.
It is in itself an astonishing achievement and a witness to the growth in mutual understanding and reciprocal exchange between Christians and Muslims in this country.

The launch event included speeches by Dr Andrew Smith (Director of Scripture Union's Youth Encounter and Forum Youth specialist), Shaykh Ibrahim Mogra (Chair of the Muslim Council of Britain's Inter Faith Committee and President of the Christian Muslim Forum), Steve Bell (National Director of Interserve mission agency), Shamshad Khan (Founder-Director, Islamic Presentation Centre International). There was opportunity for discussion and debate among participants but an overwhelming consensus that something substantial and good had been achieved. This was illustrated by the input of a young woman working with young offenders who spoke of how much this would achieve in her own context.

Participants at the launch signed the guidelines and the Forum is now seeking sign-up from Christian and Muslim organisations and individuals. Please consider passing this on to those connected with dialogue and mission in your church and to any media outlets or your website.

‘Christian Europe’ and Islam in Europe
How does ‘Christian Europe’ receive Islam in Europe? How to address the fear of ‘Islamisation’ of Europe and what are the chances for ‘Europeanisation’ of Islam?

These were the questions addressed during the third meeting of the series of seminars devoted to Islam, Christianity and Europe organised by COMECE, the Church and Society Commission (CSC) and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) in July 2008 at the European Parliament.  Please click here for the full report.

Intercultural dialogue: response to which problems? Christian and Muslim perspectives
Intercultural dialogue is a way to foster social cohesion in Europe and peace and solidarity in EU foreign relations, was the conclusion reached in the first of the four seminars taking place this year.

They are organized by the Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Community (COMECE) and the Church and Society Commission of the Council of European Churches and the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung as part of their contribution to the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue 2008.
