Small grants (of up to £1,000) available from Churches Together for Families
Churches Together for Families, (CTF) a co-ordinating group of Churches Together in England, wound up earlier this year. The remaining members of CTF agreed to transfer the remaining funds (approx £4000) to a special fund administered by CTE. Former members of CTF and any of their contacts are invited to apply for a small grant (up to £1000) to do a small piece of work at a local level that promotes engagement with families through ecumenical initiatives. A short report and evaluation on the work together with photographic material that could be circulated  through CTE's networks to encourage good practice would be requested from anyone who is awarded a grant. If you would like to apply for this funding, please download the application form and guidelines.  Applications to be submitted by 1st Sept 2010


 

12th Annual Nottingham Ecumenical Commission Conference

Catching up with Jesus; A Call to Deeper Unity is the title of this years' conference which is taking place at The Hayes Conference Centre, Swanwick between 18-20 June. It will be led by Diarmuid O'Murchu MSC and the cost to attend is £140. Churches’ Refugee Network Conference

The Churches’ Refugee Network Conference is taking place on Saturday 5 June, 10.30 (registration) - 4.30 at Holy Apostles’ Church, Pimlico, London SW1V 4LY.  It promises to be an excellent day with particular focus on the detention of children. An invitation to help launch the MP Accountability Network

The General Election is a great opportunity to ensure that politicians take account of the real issues that affect ordinary people. Launched by Church Action on Poverty, groups who sign up to the MP Accountability Network will pledge to meet regularly with their MP, to establish an ongoing dialogue. Edinburgh 2010

The international conference to mark the centenary of the World Missionary Conference Edinburgh 1910, a major event in the ecumenical movement, will conclude on Sunday June 6th.  Churches all over the world are invited to take part in this celebration through their own local events and services.  See this page for more information. 


Friends of BibleLands' Inaugural Annual Lecture - Educating for Peace in Israel and Palestine

Tuesday, April 13th 2010 from 7.45 p.m. to 9.15 p.m. in Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford.  The speaker is to be Elias Chacour, Archbishop of Galilee in the Melkite Greek Catholic church.  He will be known to many for his books Blood Brothers and We Belong to the Land and the title of his lecture is Educating for Peace in Israel and Palestine.  Entrance will be free, but by ticket only.  Please contact Heather on 01494 897933 for your tickets.  Click here for flier.

Changing the Landscape

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, is to be the keynote speaker at a national event in Lincoln which will focus on the long-term development of fresh expressions of church. He will be joined by Dr Martyn Atkins, General Secretary of the Methodist Church in Britain. Forum 2009 - follow-up

Whether or not you attended the Forum last September the follow-up notes make interesing reading.   The documents have been presented to both the Directors and the Enabling Group of CTE and are helping shape the work plan of CTE for the next three years. David Cornick's document is particularly interesting and one CEDO has already circulated it throughout his constituency. Election Time
Gordon Brown must call the next UK general election by 3 June 2010. As candidates, political agents and party activists prepare for a crucial campaign, the Churches are already preparing resources and materials to help Christians contribute to election debates. The Churches are working under the aegis of Churches Together in Britain and Ireland (CTBI) to produce guidelines on holding hustings meetings, information and Christian views on some of the key policy areas, advice on how to deal with extreme political parties and much more. Second ecumenical Kirchentag
12-16 May 2010. If you are planning to organise a trip, you need to start now. CEDOs please be aware this is the week before the annual consultation. If you are planning to be absent from the consultation, please tell CTE now so that we can cancel some of the rooms we have already booked. Farewell to Bishop Nathan, CTE President
We will be saying farewell to Bishop Nathan Hovhannisian in February, sooner than expected. After a decade serving the Armenian community in England, His Holiness Karekin II has called Bishop Nathan to a new work of ministry in the Holy See of Etchmiadzin in Armenia. David Cornick, CTE General Secretary, has written to him assuring him of our prayers as he finishes one piece of work and moves on to new service. We will miss him and are grateful for all he has done for us, and we wish him God’s blessing in all that lies ahead. (5 January 2010)
