The relationship between CTE and CTBI can be confusing as both organisations are based in London and in the area of public affairs both relate to the Westminster parliament. The following seeks to clarify the relationship a little:
- CHURCHES TOGETHER IN ENGLAND exists…

- theological education
- health care
- youth work
- inclusion
- response to social needs
- relating to regional government
- spirituality
- Black Christian Concerns
- interfaith encounter
- to encourage theological reflection primarily through the Churches Theology and Unity group
- to support the work of intermediate ecumenical bodies and county ecumenical officers
- through the work of the Field Officer (North and Midlands) and Field Officer (South)
- by publishing materials and handbooks and especially CT-Enews bulletin
- to stimulate and resource local ecumenical life , groups of churches together and local partnerships
- through the work of the Churches’ Group for Local Unity
- in collaboration with CTBI in the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity material and Lent Courses
- to draw together the variety of expressions of Christianity in England in providing a network among para-church associations, societies, movements and Bodies in Association
- being the broader ecumenical context within which the work of the Free Churches Group is set
- to provide means of communication between national and local initiatives and concerns
CHURCHES TOGETHER IN BRITAIN AND IRELAND exists… as an agency and resource for Churches Together in England and equivalent bodies in Scotland, Wales & Ireland
to encourage and facilitate the work of the Churches throughout Britain and Ireland in those matters which are best tackled as a whole, rather than in separate nations, specifically Church and Society - Coordinating the work of the Churches on social issues. Church Life - Working with the member Churches to seek greater unity in life, worship and learning and encouraging them in their lives to be signs of God's kingdom. International Affairs - Facilitating the development of coordinated ecumenical responses to issues of international political and economic significance. Racial Justice - Enabling CTBI member Churches to combat racism and racial discrimination in all manifestations, believing that all human beings belong to one family: the human race. Inter Faith Relations - Encouraging the churches in the four nations to express Christians’ commitment to their neighbours through open and trusting relations with other faith communities. International Students - Promoting, within and on behalf of the Churches, the interests of international students studying in Britain and Ireland. Global Mission Network - formerly Churches' Commission on Mission - Helping to co-ordinate British and Irish Churches' and agencies' work in ecumenical global witness and service.
