Message for World Day of Peace 2011
Each year the Pope issues a "Message for the Celebration of the World Day of Peace" which is on the 1st January. This year's message has the theme: Religious Freedom, The Path to Peace.
In this message the Pope draws attention to the sacred right to life and to a spiritual life, the family as the school of freedom and peace, the public dimension of religion, the dangers of the exploitation of religious freedom, fundamentalism and hostility to believers, dialogue between civil and religious institutions, moral truth in politics and diplomacy.
He concludes saying: Religious feedom is an authentic weapon of peace, with an historical nad prophetic mission. Peace brings to ful fruition the deepest qualities and potentials of the human person, the qualities which can change the world and make it better. It gives hope for a future of justice and peace, even in the face of grave injustice and material and moral poverty. May all men nad owmen, and socieites at every level and in every part of the earth, soon be able to experience religious freedom, the path to peace!
