Methodist Touchstone Project in Bradford -
background and plans for Inter Faith Week
The Faith to Faith project of the West Yorkshire Methodist District is based at the Touchstone Centre Bradford. In 2008 Touchstone was designated the role of ‘A District project of Connexional significance’. Touchstone describes itself as
“A movement of faith expressing the good news of Christ through the words, deeds and lives of those who share a vision for the city”
Through the Faith to Faith project Touchstone puts these words into action. This project aims to build good relationships and understanding of faiths and cultures in Bradford by providing them an opportunity to interact with each other, share hospitality and increase religious and cultural literacy in the area.
Some of the interfaith activities which enable people in the churches and communities to meet each other are:
-
Interfaith Writers for Peace,
-
Interfaith Women Group and
-
Interfaith Prayers Event, during the “Week of Prayer for World Peace”
During Inter Faith Week this year (15 – 21st November 2009) our activities will include an exhibition of some religious symbols, sharing by a Buddhist Teacher about Buddhist faith and there will also be an opportunity of sharing a meal. For the last two years this event has been organised at Haworth Road Methodist Church, Bradford and it is always open to all.
One of the resources published by Touchstone Staff is the “Golden Nuggets” prayers from a Pennine City, WYS books No.16
The interfaith activities that occur are published every four months in a Faith to Faith newsletter, quite often it is featured in Urdu magazines and newspapers.
