"Understanding and Appreciating Muslim Diversity:Towards better Engagement and Participation"

Institute of Community Cohesion, Conference and Publication Launch

The CTE interfaith officer attended the launch of the document from the Institute of Community Cohesion called "Understanding and Appreciating Muslim Diversity:Towards better Engagement and Participation" at the Islamic Cultural Centre and London Central Mosque in April 2009. There were about 80 people present mainly from local government offices and one or two Christian interfaith officers. It is certainly helpful to study this document and grow in our understanding of Muslim diversity. But participants were also encouraged not to be put off by the sheer complexity presented in the text. No matter what our starting point, Muslims seeking to understand a myriad of Christian churches and denominations, or Christians exploring Muslim diversity, what matters is the quality of the relationship we establish with each person. Out of this comes genuine understanding, solidarity, reciprocity and collaboration for the common good.
